Generally speaking, a wider gap will give you a better idle but may reduce your wide-open-throttle performance, especially if your coil is marginal. A hot coil will improve performance at WOT with a larger gap. Dragsters use a very large gap with a very hot ignition system and replace the burned out plugs after each run.
