Let me try this again - FORD and MERC used the same system during this period. It was different from the P&A System introduced in 1959 (and I think this is where the confusion comes in), particularly in the use of PN Prefixes (need to differentiate FORD from MERC from LINC).

The below attached shows a PREFIX listing for FORD. Another MERC. The MERC is actually a model listing but you can see how they also used this in their PN Prefix chart.
