After about two hours of struggle finally got the drivers side band threaded stud in place. Had to remove the passenger side completely and re bend (several times) the drivers side orientation of the stud. Today I tackle the passenger side. Tightening the nuts should be fun. If I ever do this again the band gets installed before the body gets mounted on the frame. Working blind in a confined place isn't fun. Lots of words I can't repeat in the presence of young ears!
