Am with wmws. During the time it was giving fits, it seemed everything was rather hot under the hood and though I didn't have an IR temperature gun on me, the water seemed to have neared the boiling point. Figured out what had happened when checking everything. Once I got to the timing, the timing pin was seated well, but the #1 piston was not at TDC when looking through the plug hole. Off came the timing cover and the slightly chewed cam gear was there to say "found me."
