It's good that everybody learns to drive a stick trans early in their driving life as you never know when you need to in an emergency. Same goes with the Model A and double clutching. I drive 100 miles every day for my normal commute.
That said, my old man taught me the standard 3 speed shift pattern when I was 4. I've never forgotten it.
