I use hand signals, not for safety, but because it's the law. The law requires it from ME, the vehicle operator, to signal a lane change or turn, and I use exactly the signals the law requires me to use.
I can't base on what I do in life on the stupidest, not-attention-paying, texting kid. I obey by the law, and if others do not, they'll have to pay up for it. Their problem, not mine.
