you might want to check ABF freight. I did this same operation in 2000 from CA to NC.
ABF drops off the 40' trailer at your house and you load whatever you want and put your lock on the trailer door. you have 3 days to load.
They (ABF) delivers to your new house and drop off the trailer. You have 3 days to unload.
very simple, very safe and very reasonable...I would use them again anytime.
I hired a 4 man moving team to pack the trailer and they really did well,
the un-packers on the receiving end caused me some problems, but it all worked out.
