You should not be putting grease in between the spring leaves! Ford used a special lubricant for this and it is not grease. You can make up a mixture, but the easiest way to go is SlipPlate. I believe it also comes in tubes.

I don't have the lubrication charts for the later models, but before the addition of the fitting in the center bolt Ford recommended spraying the springs with Graphite Prenetrating Oil, L in the 32-35 diagram. After the fitting was used the correct lubricate was Ford M-4628, K in the 41 diagram
