I am no electrical expert, but it seems like what you are proposing to do should work with a minimum of expense. I don't know the cost of the 6 to 12v converter compared to the BrakeLighter. I installed the LED tail lights on my coupe that the vendors sell, and I had to put higher candle power bulbs in the cowl lights or other resistance for them to work properly. I don't know if that would be an issue in your proposed setup, but if you have any issues when you install the LEDs, that might be something to check.
