Default Re: Tractor carburetors

I have a massey 165. I have had a Marvel Schebler and a Zenith on this tractor, I prefer the Zenith, it has a high speed jet adjustment. With that said as I think about your question, Carbs for a tractor or for a auto were designed keeping in mind the needs of the vehicle they were made for. A tractor pretty much runs at low RPM most of the time or with implements running at 540 off the pto, so the power curve for the engine and carb get set up to be at the speed the engine will be used most. On a car, such as a model A Ford, speed and engine speed vary a lot more and on an automobile, a Carb is designed to run from Idle to full speed and sometimes hold at full speed a lot more than on a tractor. What I am basically saying is a carb is designed for its intended use. You can play around and experiment but I would suggest finding a Marvel Schebler for a Model A ford. They are around and there was a Marvel Schebler sold by Sears under a Sears model number.
