'32 thru early '39 trans had a syncro hub with the tapered syncro 'brake' surface integral
with the hub. Along about Nov or Dec of '38 Ford introduced the much improved loose ring syncro design where the hub now only trapped the syncros, this design about doubled the syncro 'braking' surface. The '37 Ford and '39 Merc trans are interchangeble, except maybe the rear mount....not sure. Anyhoo except for some monster truck applications '32 up had syncromesh, just much improved for '39.
