I like the look of the single stage Urethane without a clear coat. To my eye, it looks more like original paint then the ultra shiny "plastic" look of the clear.
That said, to each his own, I don't think it would appreciably darken your paint if you use it but it will certainly make it shiny.
If you look at my album of my V8 coupe I am working on (I painted in my driveway), you can see that you can attain a decent smooth finish without the clear.
