Default Re: Re-winding horn field coils?

I have wrapped field coils on two Model A horns to convert to 12 volt. Used 24 gauge and wrapped 100 turns on each field coil. Yeh, it worked but, she just does not have that same sound the 6 volt horn gives. The motor starts too fast to give it that aaahooogaaah sound. More like hooga.

Several years ag I went ot a electric motor shop to see if they would rewind it for me. He said no, but I will sell you the 24 ga coated wire. I thought he meant maybe 50 feet of wire. He brought out a spool 18-20 inches in dia htat must have at least 1000 ft on it and said "you can have the whole spool for $20.00 bucks. I bought it.
