My March 29 CC pickup was assembled in Somerville, MA and it has the 3rd version with the block. The hole in the bed rails are punched with "square" hole to contain the carriage type bolts which go through the bed rail and block of wood.

No evidence of the "L-shaped bracket" or its attachment - although the original teacup type bracket was found in the passenger side pocket of the cab (unit had been converted over to teacup along with TwoLight Headlights using the original "Type H" shells.)

I imagine variation exists.
