The very early brass cars had thermosyphoning cooling system and inadequate fans. As a young lad I had a friend with an Overland who drove in parades. The slow speeds of parades did not provide enough air flow through the radiator. He mounted a second radiator under the car with an electric fan to add to the cooling so that his engine would not burn up. I cannot remember the details so don't ask.
