Default Re: My Rug is Glued Down 50Merc - and needs to come up

I used long extensions with wobble sockets to get all but the ones on top. I had to use a combination wrench on those but they will come out. Make a note of where wire clamps are attached. My cars are the overdrive type. I even left the drive shaft & equalizer connected on the clutch. If you have to move the motor/trans forward, the rear mount would have to be undone along with the fronts. The equalizer would need to be disconnected. The 49 has different front mounts but I've seen some that were converted to be like the 50 & 51. There was a time when those front mounts were hard to get. The 49 also has a different brace over the radiator than the 50 & 51 but all of them are removable. Removing the radiator gives a lot of room too but it takes a bit of work and the cross over wires may have to be dealt with. There is a trick to getting bullet pins out of sockets when they've been in there for a long time. I'd leave them to dangle if I went that far.
