Default Re: Hood hinges - tube or rod?

Here are some original hood rods. The top rod behind the radiator cap is a seamed 3/8" OD steel tube. The side rods are a solid 1/4" steel. The upper rod is difficult to remove without damaging. All these you see are beyond repair. Bent into a corkscrew or bent/crimped over at the ends. Whether you go with a solid or tubular upper rod, if something heavy comes down on your hood, it won't matter which you use.
A straight piece of 5/16" ID (3/8"OD) brake line is a pretty close fit for a top rod. But in the long run, a stainless rod won't ever rust.
