What to look for in an oil pump
I’ve got a 1952 or ’53 block at the machine shop getting checked out. It seems like a pretty primo flathead. It turned over, has no cylinder ridges and zero sludge inside. I’ve partially disassembled the short-body oil pump to clean it and inspect everything. I think I can put it back together with new gaskets and run it as is. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for in there? It spins beautifully, the gears look great and there’s no discernible slop in the shaft. Just curious if anything else need to be looked at.
