[Ed in Maine]

I am trying to install the rear brake drum after replacing the emergency brake band. The service brakes haven't been touched and are broken in. I have gotten the drum about 25% over the service brake shoes and the axle shaft is flush with the end of the drum. I can turn the drum but it doesn't seem to be going over the emergency brake band. I have disconnected the emergency brake rod from the lever in the car and the emergency brake shoes are seated solidly against the carrier. They could not be retracted any further. How do you get the drum installed? Ed
