Default Re: How Fast Will It Go?

Bob, when you mentioned stock, the only thing I can relate this to is a standard bore, standard crankshaft, correctly balanced reciprocating assembly in a low-mileage car that I have driven, and they can do very well at 60 mph with stock gearing.

Where things start going 'haywire' is when the balance of the reciprocating assembly is bad, then abnormal stresses are created causing failures. Remember, old 20's & 30s diesel engines had over 3X the compression ratio as an 'A' engine did, and they were very reliable for long periods of laborious operation. Therefore it was not the compression that caused babbitt failures.
