We have always used an air filter. Never a problem with gas soaking or running to rich.

My feeling is, if air filters weren’t needed, manufacturers would not have them.

Why take the chance of sucking anything into your expensive to rebuild engine?

Even our sailboats engine has an air filter. Is dust or dirt a problem in Long Island Sound?
