NOT an 8BA but "just" had the same issue with our 39 Mercury, it was the head gasket from the water port out to the edge of the head and was "PEEING" water out the back between the head and block (NOT into the oil or cylinders) SO I pulled the heads and had them checked and decked and put a new set of head gaskets and it was fixed!!! Hopefully its something simple like that???? OR freeze plugs????
