Since
Frantz filters are bypass filters, they really are not much help on a flathead Ford that already has a bypass unit. If the engine originally had no filter, I think adding a
Frantz would not be a bad idea.
On an engine with a full flow filter, adding a
Frantz as a bypass unit allows smaller particles to be filtered out of the oil over time. Using a combination of full flow and bypass filters is a common practice in large over the road trucks and other commercial applications.
