Are you interested in owning a car or are you interested in mechanical stuff and learning more about how things work? In the first case, save up your money and buy a car where most of the work has been done. In the second case, buy a car that needs lots of work and tear it apart and rebuild it.

In my case, I was always interested in the mechanical aspects and when 14 bought an old, inexpensive, car to rebuild.
