The bell housing can be welded and not able to tell from
outside. I have done 4 for friends over the years. I'm not
going to take the time for complete details but the broken
parts need to be straightened, edges ground to a bevel and
the same with the parts still remaining on the bell housing.
Just tack weld the parts in place. Grind the tacks thin and
using cast iron nirod stick electrodes weld 1" welds keeping
the welds spaced so the metal never gets much hotter than
you can touch. Peen the welds to relieve stress and grind the
stops and starts of every weld before the next weld. Grind
the bell housing smooth and apply a thick coat of engine paint.
let it almost dry and stipple the surface with an acid brush and
it looks just like the original casting. I forgot to mention, bolt
an empty transmission to the bell housing before starting so all
the holes a aligned. Re drill and tap any mounting holes that
were torn out using the transmission for a drill pattern. Then
the owners all asked me not to tell anyone. G.M.
