I have a Mallory crab on my avatar car. If I had an 8ba, I would use the grafted SBC with a true vacuum advance. The Mallory mechanical advance system is a bit hokey, at least the one in my distributor which I think is a YC is. When it goes south, I will go with a well built stock crab. When I built the car in the 1990s, I didn't know any better. I never take it above 5500 RPM anyway.
