Unfortunately, the only way to really see if you need that spacer or not is to install the cable on the drive gear housing and run it up to the speedometer head like normal. Than before hooking the speedometer to the cable push the inner cable down into the outer cable as far as you are able to. if the inner cable goes into the outer case too far, it means that the "Shim" will be needed to be installed inside the shaft on the speedometer drive gear. there are currently and have been lots of companies making the shaft and some of the shafts are drilled to deep for the speedometer cable.
