Replacement Model A blocks (not complete engines) did not have serial numbers. Model B blocks (if that happens to be what you have) didn't have serial numbers.

Your registration is for an engine/car built October 1929 (see http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/ABenginenumbers.htm). It is a stretch but that engine could have ended up in a 1930 vehicle. I would suggest you put the VIN plate you ordered in the trash can. It might work but it might turn out to be a very BIG and EXPENSIVE problem. Attached is the VIN tag the California Highway put on the door of my 1931 RDPU (with the last 3 digits blanked out). It would have to be a very high point restoration before I would find this objectionable.
