As a follow up to GM here's what that centerdrive shaft bearing looks like.
The first photo is a NOS Ford torque tube center bearing. The hole you see
lines up with the torque tube grease fitting.

The last 2nd and 3rd photos show what the bearing looks like with the rubber casing removed.

If over greased,the grease will be forced out between the leather bearing seal and the solid drive shaft. The last 2 photos show what happens when the oil from the rear banjo leaks down into the driveshaft and dissolves the rubber. All that "goo" is the rubber. This happens when the car is "raked".
