A local high school student in my hometown Lancaster Ohio designed and submitted the design of the 50 star flag that was adopted. He was a senior who graduated in 1960 and it started out as a History or Civics project that he received a grade of a B or less. After Eisenhower accepted the design at the Whitehouse I think his grade was elevated to an A +
