Your old gears are junk. Besides having a howl in second, the hard facing is gone from the faces of the teeth and the lines that you see across the faces is also the dotted line that the tooth possibly can break off at. When that happens, you could loose everything. Besides loosing the transmission case, it will ruin your day too. Replace the bad gears with better gears. While you are at it, check out your transmission bearings' wear too. No slop or pits allowed in the bearings either.
