NO, the box and the internal gears and bearings are the same 37-47 car and pickup. Some of the boxes have different details OUTSIDE, but will fit. Some years have different length steering shaft.
Flatford, you are good to go with your plan, but you may have to alter the location of the column drop and the locking sleeve on the shaft.
