I stick about 10 or twelve balls around the bottom half of the piston (the top half is in the transfer area and doesn't count). Let's face it; aluminum foil is cheap and easy to get.

BTW, I like the fact that you are taking this route, no matter what others say. In my opinion. the most effective thing you can do to get the maximum efficiency from a flathead is to get the "squish" right.

Oh, by the way, put a couple of balls on top of the valves. I have never had a problem there, but better to be safe than sorry.
