Is this a newly rebuilt engine? There is a possibility that there is some coolant leaking from one of the head stud bolts and is slowly leaking down the side of the block giving you a false indication that the block is cracked. I am assuming that this condition has just developed and there is no freezing temps here yet in the lower 48.
