I took the wire from the ignition switch that normally powered the gages, and ran it to one side of the voltage reducer, then attached the wire that went to the gages to the other end of the reducer. Mine was an adjustable reducer, and I adjusted it to about 6.2 volts for the gages. Worked great and the gages looked accurate.
