I do not think the stamped steel starter plate has the large dimple in the center like a truck one does.

I believe V8 Bob noted some time back that the plate in this picture does not belong with those half bells.
You are correct Denny...the Merc has (I believe) two extra holes to bolt to the pan bracket. The pan bracket bolts to the pan via THREE studs. DD
