In addition to the suggestions above, I would add 'alignment' pins. They help me. Simply a couple of bolts, heads cut off, and screwdriver slots hacksawed into the ends.
I'm definitely a fan of what Kerk posted above in #3. Those plastic thingys never worked worth a shit for me.
