I have had better luck with the "wire type" return or anti-rattle springs. The flat spring steel units push very well for about a month and then break right where they bolt up.
If you do not adjust the rods length at all your brakes will function the same as before.
But it's a good time to look for improvement and try to eliminate any free play in the system. This brake system is great if regularly maintained.
