yes it will,but modern electronic components like consistent voltage..so do horns,bulbs,points and coils,just about every electric component lasts longer with smooth,constant current, a 12v alternator provides it inexpensively.
That being said,6v has come along way..with the advent of superior electronics and light emitting diodes a 6v system is more relevant today that it was 20 years ago.And its authentic,a starter doesn't sound the same,that alone is reason enough to stay 6v..
