This is conjecture as I never became interested in pre-1954 FORD and never got involved with the early number system(s).

If BA is the prefix 1952 (and I have no doubt), then E may identify the PN as an engineering PN, to be converted into a SERVICE PN.

What period FORD are you involved with? You say bumper irons, are you describing bumper mounting brackets? Can you post the complete PN?
