Most 3 speed o/d’s came with something like a 3.9x rear ratio. Maybe 4:11’s in a heavier car, maybe a 4:27 like the 55/56 6 cyl wagons. Might get a 3.7x living in Kansas. Those ratios still work pretty well with a 2.5 or so 1st, 1.5 or so 2nd, 3rd direct, and a .7 o/d.

Same as I said above. But give it a shot. You’ll know after a few miles, and a lot depends on how you drive and the geography. It’ll let you save your money or spend it wisely.
