To answer your question from post # 10, Roy (RIP) had a story that a guy he knew bought a 32 pickup truck just to get the radiator cap. They are so "normal" looking that most of them got thrown away as "just a radiator cap". I found one in a bucket of junk a friends garage. He is well versed in early V8's (has a bunch) . He had no idea what it was. When I found it, I told him to get a white glove and wrap it in velvet and take it to the bank vault.
