Default Painting nuts and bolts...

I've gotten as far as putting some paint on the frame and mechanical parts for my version of an AV8 roadster. Our "local" auto paint outlet deals in Nason. They're recommending that I use their etching primer followed by a sealant and then a top coat. I started with the rims and it was a definite learning curve. Now, I got the frame all primed before I put it together and today I put on the sealant. I'm reluctant to put on the top coat because it's so darned glossy and I had problems with it on the wheels and other parts I painted. Do I need the sealant if I'm using a top coat? I like the sealant's dark gray low gloss look.
Thanks!
