oil in valve chamber
So I have recently bought a 29 A, and have been checking it out some. It starts and runs and drives really good. I dropped the pan to check for sludge, as I had no idea of the oil or previous care it had. There was quite a bit, probably 1/4 + inch of sludge in the bottom of the pan. Cleaned that up, and figured that all was good. Then I read something here that reminded me that there was a probably sludge in the valve chamber also. So, I pulled the cover off the side, and although not as bad as the pan, it was kinda sludgy. (if that is a word). Made sure all the holes to oil the mains were open, then was trying to figure how the oil gets up there. I pulled the plugs and had any wife turn the engine over with the starter while I watched. Oil comes out the passage into the area at the front of the motor near the cam gear, but I didn't see any oil coming into the rest if the valve chamber. How does it get oil there?? There was oil there when I took the cover off.
