Hopefully some one will an original roadster without upholstery on the wood tack rail or better yet, without the tack rail installed.

In addition to serving as a termination point for the welting tip, the depressed section of sheet metal also is where the welting tip is attached, namely through a hole in the triangular sheet metal and on into the side of the end of the portion of the tack rail wood that is inserted into the 'pocket'.
