Hi Russ, we keep those breathers on the shelf here (photo below).

With respect to you pan, assuming it's not bolted in place yet, I would inspect the gasket between the dipstick adapter and the pan, most times they are no longer any good. We've addressed this issue more recently with a repair kit on all the 8BA's we do now.

With the pan on the bench you should also check the dipstick length for correct reading to the amount of required oil in the system (photo below also)?

P.S. The OEM pan-to-screen clearance seems to be about 1/2" built-in as Ronnie mentioned above, anywhere between 3/8" and the 1/2" number is fine.
