As suggested by 51 Merc-CT. The seat taper is correct internally in the pump. Is either too deep to seat on fuel pipe taper or taper on pipe is too short. To remove a small section on the end face once you measure up and decide how much material to be removed.
The other option is to use the Stromberg fuel line end pieces as used for carb inlet.
They have a good long taper piece and work. I have used these as in this area i fit an inline filter just before fuel pump.
Measure the internal thread depth of an old pump and compare with a new pump maybe you will see a difference.
