Different year models and applications can have different capacities. The above capacity is correct for some but not all applications and year models. The 49 thru 51 Mercury applications lists the capacity at 5 quarts with a wet oil change and 6 quarts with a dry engine and filter housing. The 8RT family of V8 truck engines are likely the same but I don't have the shop manual for them.
