I've found that softening cork gaskets in hot motor oil before installation prevents future dry cork air leaks. Never over-tighten any gasket bolts, or they will squish-deform or dry-crack as soon as you close the hood. After several heat/cool cycles, check and snug up those bolts if necessary. Take care to avoid stripping the threads in the cast pump body with that single bolt in the center.

Fuel filter hoses come with chintzy spring clips which are guaranteed to leak air. Replace them with worm style hose clamps, and as above, retighten them when the hoses warm up some.
