Rob, Yes, being brass, as a last resort you can drill it out. It's only about 1/4-5/16 long. However, what i've done in the past to remove the stubborn ones, is to stand the block up with its front face down,in a hydraulic press. Use a square shank screwdriver that fits the slot well, and hold it in place with the hydraulic ram. It can't slide out with the ram holding it in place. Use a suitable wrench on the square shank to apply torque to the screw. It will move....however, your one is probably too buggered up by now to try this.
Obviously, you need a decent sized press....
